Webcast Q&A: Introducing Oracle Content and Experience Cloud

Wed, 2017-05-03 13:50

Thank you for those that joined us for the webcast “Introducing Oracle Content and Experience Cloud: Drive Engagement by Unleashing the Power of Content”. If you weren’t able to view the webcast live, you can still catch it on demand. David Le Strat presented some great information on the webcast and answered quite a few of your questions in the Q&A session as well. For your reading pleasure we have captured a number of the questions and answers that are summarized below:

Q: What type of content can you manage?
A: We can manage a number of content types: business documents, digital assets, structured / editorial content for publishing, moderated user comments on content.

Q: Is there OOB integration with Social Platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.?
A: We plan to add built-in support for social channels in an upcoming release.

Q: How can we build a self-service application in Oracle Content and Experience Cloud?
For a self-service application, we provide the ability to create custom components that can expose self-service functionality in secure sites. We can leverage custom code, our other services like Oracle Process Cloud Service to support initiating self-service requests, etc.

Q: Marketing is not just about content, it also needs to "Engage" through use of forms, tracking clicks, etc. How is this covered?
For forms, we have multiple solutions based on the use case: for instance, embedded Eloqua forms (e.g. lead gen), embedded self-service process form (like service request using our Oracle Process Cloud Service), or custom forms (developed with our low code Application Builder or custom developed). For analytics, we currently rely on third party solutions.

Q: How do you manage enterprise content?
A: The ability to manage enterprise content like office docs, media, images, PDF, etc. is part of the Oracle Content and Experience Cloud platform. Users can easily manage, share and collaborate on such content. It also includes Digital Asset Management capabilities. Oracle Content and Experience Cloud covers all the content types – enterprise documents, digital assets, structured content, etc.

Q: How was the Supremo website created?
A: The Cafe Supremo website is created with Oracle Content and Experience Cloud, which includes the site building capabilities you see here. The website itself is a combination of page layout/component definitions and structured content coming from our central content repository.

Q: How can I integrate Oracle Content and Experience Cloud with my custom applications?
A: That’s a great question and I touched on this during the presentation of how we are very much looking at having a decoupled approach/architecture, an API first approach between the content delivery and the presentation. So we have a number of APIs and SDKs that enable you to embed that content into a web application with a single line of java script -- you’re able to essentially embed the content that you want to retrieve into your application. The bottom line is that we offer a rich set of APIs and SKDs that enable you to content-enable your applications leveraging these capabilities.

Q: Is the Oracle Content and Experience Cloud the cloud version of Oracle WebCenter Sites and Portal? This looks great!
A: This is a different offering. This is our cloud native solution and it can complement on-premise deployment of WebCenter: Oracle WebCenter Sites integrated into the WebCenter Sites asset model and WebCenter Portal for content publishing and collaboration.

Q: Is there any training available (Developer Training)?
A: We are in the process of rolling out training on Oracle Content and Experience Cloud (including developer-specific materials), and we will be reaching out to our partners with more details soon.

Q: Do you see this a potential alternative to WebCenter Content?
A: For Digital Asset Management, yes, for Content Retention and Archiving, no. Also, you have to take
into account whether customers have data residency requirements where they want their content on-premises.

Q: Is this all going to be available to existing Oracle Documents Cloud customers?
A: Yes, all existing Oracle Documents Cloud customers will notice that the service is now branded as Content and Experience Cloud, and all users are now standard-type users. Enterprise users will have access to additional features including digital asset management and structured content as highlighted in today's demo.

Q: Is there any API to migrate content from another system to Oracle Content and Experience Cloud?
A: We have APIs, yes. We also have partner solutions who can help with content migration through migration utilities. If you are looking for content migration for editorial/structured content, these APIs will be made public later this year.

Q: How has your new DAM functionality been received by customers?
A: It's been received very well. We have provided numerous features to ease the ability to work with digital assets. We have tagging, collaboration, collections, etc. The fact that DAM is also integrated with structured content and documents plus all that content can be accessed in one place directly for building sites and experiences is seen as very valuable.

Q: This has focused on Marketing, what about other departments use of content in an organization?
A: The possibilities are endless when considering how other organizations use content. A few examples: Sales team enablement with managing customer presentations, RFP's, product training. Human Resources with onboarding new employees and managing employee handbooks, corporate guidelines, tax forms, etc. Legal teams managing contracts including digital signatures and approval processes around these. Partner and supplier relationships with managing purchase orders and invoices. The list goes on...

Q: How this is difference from Oracle Sites Cloud Service?
A: The Experience Management functionality of the Oracle Content and Experience Cloud is Oracle Sites Cloud Service with new capabilities. We rebranded Oracle Documents Cloud Service and Oracle Sites Cloud Service as the Oracle Content and Experience Cloud and as we added new capabilities, created Standard and Enterprise editions.

Q: How do you distinguish structured content from unstructured content in terms of content and experience cloud?
A: Unstructured: documents, conversations. Structured/editorial = content items created from a structured content type or content brought under management like assets.

Q: Can I use Oracle Content and Experience Cloud for an intranet?
A: Yes. This is a great question. In our demo we focused very much on a marketing scenario, but one of the great things we provide is the ability to address a number of needs around the type of digital experience you want to provide. We touched on customer experience and how we can integrate with marketing tools, but we are seeing a lot of use cases for intranets that are integrated with your HR systems. If we keep with the Cafe Supremo example that we used in the webcast, an organization might need to training baristas, make employees aware of when they should go into the HR system to perform their performance reviews or other various activities that are happening during the year that are relevant to them like signing up for benefits for example. The ability to deliver personalized content to employees in a rich content experience that can drive them to the right system when they need to perform their tasks is something that we see quite a bit. Beyond this intranet and employee experience example, we are seeing some very interesting use cases in digitizing partner and supplier relationships. For example, Content and Experience Cloud has built in integrations with ERP systems like JD Edwards so you can enable the digitization of information exchange between internal ERP systems and suppliers so they can have self-service capabilities to access POs and invoices, to submit reconciliation requests because of billing issues, etc. We have a very comprehensive set of capabilities to enable customer experiences, employee experiences, and partner & supplier experiences.

Q: Is CDN included for the delivery of content?
A: This is in an important question. How do you guarantee that you have the right level of performance that is distributed across a global network where you want to deliver your information? We do provide caching included in the product through a content delivery network. Our content delivery network is global and we actually leverage Alchemy technology for that, and it's included in the subscription for the service.

Q: How do I purchase Oracle Content and Experience Cloud?
Our pricing information is public. If you go to cloud.oracle.com/content and look at the Pricing Tab, you can see the details of the pricing information there. We definitely recommend you try it. From a purchasing standpoint we have a number of options. If you are looking at a small deployment you can self-service your own purchase in our Cloud Store or get in touch with Oracle and we will work with you to identify a specific configuration for your own deployment.

Again, if you missed the live webcast we encourage you to watch it on demand to learn more and see a demo of Oracle Content and Experience Cloud in action!

Twitter Chat Reveals – Is headless CMS signaling the end of WCM?

Tue, 2017-04-25 14:18

Last week, on April 20, @oraclewebcenter hosted a live Twitter Chat at #contentdgtl. The topic – Is headless CMS signaling the end of WCM?

Decoupled CMS architecture (aka “headless”) is rising in popularity in the development world. This model allows breakthrough user experiences, gives developers great flexibility to innovate, and helps site owners future-proof their builds by allowing them to refresh the design without re-implementing the whole CMS. With all this upside, it’s no wonder this type of build has gained serious traction.

With that in mind, the live Twitter discussion focused on the topic of headless CMS and whether companies need to be thinking about it. The Twitter Chat explored headless CMS vs. WCM and use cases of when it makes sense to use one or the other. Industry thought leaders including Melissa Webster from IDC, Dave Gray from Xplaner.com, numerous partners and more participated in this very engaging discussion. The interaction ranged from the benefits of headless CMS to both the developer and business, to things to watch for with headless CMS and ended with best practice recommendations for content production, management & delivery in a cloud world.

From serious musings to light hearted commentary (including this pic that Tanu Sood shared), the Twitter Chat proved to be a great meeting of minds.

Even if you participated, you may have missed portions of the live discussion so we have curated the chat here; it might be worth going back and following the discussion.

One of my personal favorites was a tweet from Carlos Picazo (@carlines) that said "in a few years, we will have even more connected than today and content is key, Internet of People!"

Catch the recap of the Twitter Chat and while you still can, feel free to search for the complete thread by searching on “#contentdgtl” on Twitter.

3 Ways to Make Paperwork Less Difficult

Tue, 2017-04-18 06:54

Authored by: Sarah Gabot, Partner Marketing Manager, HelloSign

Let’s face it--paperwork, regardless of whether it’s on paper or in the cloud, is no fun. It still takes time and effort to prepare, and if you’re getting it signed, you’re often sitting waiting for the document to return.

Believe it or not, you can make the paperwork even simpler with the help of an eSignature tool.

We’ve listed out three ways you can make paperwork less painful. You can immediately begin applying these to the HelloSign for Oracle Content and Experience Cloud integration today.

Avoid manually reviewing documents with data validation
Human error happens. People accidentally input the wrong information or have typos when filling out forms. That’s why HelloSign created data validation

Data validation is a feature that prevents users from entering incorrect information. For example, if you require the user to type in his or her social security number, you know that only nine numbers are acceptable. No letters. Exactly nine numbers.

Using this feature, when the documents return, there will be fewer errors to comb through and less back and forth between you and the signer.

Increase signer completion rates with mobile-friendly signing
Nearly everybody has a smartphone these days. Being able to handle tasks on-the-go on a smartphone has become a requirement for most people. Signing documents is no exception.

HelloSign’s signing experience is mobile-friendly. Instead of having to pinch on a small screen, the signer experience is intuitive with responsive pages. There’s also progress tracking that shows how many total (and remaining) required fields are left.

A more mobile-friendly experience means that your signers are more inclined to complete the document faster.

Save time by auto-filling documents.
For certain documents, there are fields that you, the document preparer, can pre-fill. For example, if you have a templated document like an offer letter, you can pre-fill fields in the document (eg. job title, salary number) in HelloSign for Oracle CEC.

It’s a quick way for you to prepare standardized documents without having to recreate it every time.

Try it out yourself!
See for yourself how you can simplify paperwork flows using Oracle Content and Experience Cloud and HelloSign. To learn how to get started, email our sales team at oracle-sales@hellosign.com or speak to your Oracle Account rep.

Twitter Chat on Content and Why We Should All Join

Wed, 2017-04-12 08:00

I am in product marketing. Call it professional hazard but my day to day work life involves working with content – producing new content, putting together an outline for an asset in collaboration with sales, product management and business development or building content for an asset, reviewing asset content or sending it for reviews, working with internal marketing teams and external agencies and publishing content, both for internal and external consumption. So, yes, I am clearly interested and invested in making my life easier when it comes to content production and publication.

But over the course of the last couple of years, I found out that it wasn’t just me or the content management team sitting within the IT department that has a stake in content discussions. My peers in web marketing, campaign marketing, field marketing, our friends in sales, application integration or application development are all vested in driving and discussing trends in content management, especially those that impact their means of consumption and delivery of content.

Whether you work in content management, marketing, IT, brand compliance or are simply a consumer of content (aren’t we all?), you should have your voice heard by content management providers and industry thought leaders on what works and what would make your work life significantly easier.

And here’s your opportunity. On Thursday, April 20th at 10 a.m. PST/ 1 p.m. EST, there is a live tweet chat on all things content. I strongly urge you to participate in the live discussion on twitter. Use #contentdgtl to follow the discussion and chime in. Challenge the status quo, get your thoughts heard and participate so that industry people know where the future of content should be headed.

Join the live chat (you can use any of the twitter chat platforms like TweetChat for example) using #contentdgtl and be a part of this important discussion.

TekStream Guest Post: Using Business Objects With the Oracle Process Cloud Service

Tue, 2017-04-11 16:24
Authored by: Courtney Dooley | Content Developer, TekStream

Imagine you’re outlining an Oracle Process Cloud Application that you need to build. You then realize you need the data that’s entered into your form to be passed to a Process, filtered through a Decision, and used as an input for a REST API call.  That scenario could have you creating a Field, Data object, Decision input object, and a REST API request body.  However, if you start by defining a Business Object that contains all the data you will need for these functions, you may find you only need one.  TekStream recently did a blog post describing how you can keep your data organized within your Process Cloud Application, and shorten the time needed to create and link these objects. Read on to learn how!
